Projects

As identified by many users and developers, there are many enhancements that would make OpenDX better. These enhancements have been broken down into four categories: Executive, User Interface, Modules, and Other. We would like to hear from you with regards to these projects. If you see something you would like added, please send a note to . If you are working on implementing any of these, send us a note so we can let others know you are working on it.

Executive

  • Distributed DX (MPI extension)
  • Further optimization
  • Update and provide better OpenGL support
  • Vector Postscript Renderer
  • Add other interpolation methods (such as Bi and Tri-linear)
  • Add other rendering algorithms such as Raycast
  • Fix the memory model internally to support 64-bit architectures

User Interface

  • Context sensitive menus for VPE
  • HTML help engine replacement for current help/tutorial
  • Make UI fonts resource editable
  • Annotation/Module Attachment
  • Redesign the full prompter to layout on smaller screens
  • Microsoft Windows native version

Modules

  • Other Colormap editors
  • Better plotting modules (dashed, dotted lines), 3-d bar charts
  • Better Colorbar options (ticks on outside, annotation on right side, etc.)
  • Possible VTK hookup
  • More statistical modules
  • SimplifyLine (like SimplifySurface but for lines)
  • Boolean modules (add, subtract, etc.)
