I am writing a book, "Democratizing Data" ("Democratizing data makes it automatically available to those who need it when and where they need it based on their roles and responsibilities, in forms they can use, and with the freedom to use it as they choose -- while simultaneously protecting security and privacy.") for July publication by O'Reilly Media. My co-author is Vivek Kundra, the D.C. CTO, who is reportedly one of two finalists for the new position as CTO of the US.Google CEO Eric Schmidt is a strong backer of the project! A crucial part of the book will be my argument that organizations need to capitalize on automatic feeds of structured data to their entire workforce to give them the information they need to do their jobs more effectively, especially in the current economic crisis. Equally important is providing tools to help workers interpret and act on that data. In that regard, we're looking for case studies of organizations that use Open DX to help their entire workforces (vs. the pricey commercial BI dashboards that typically are used only by senior management and a few functional groups such as sales and marketing. The model, incidentally, is the District of Columbia, which now publishes 257 structured data feeds internally and externally, and will expand this to 400 this year and 800 next year. I'd really appreciate any contacts with organizations using OpenDX in this "democratic" way. Thanks in advance for any assistance you can give me!
