OpenDX causes Xserver crash while running Compiz
07/31/08 at 02:17:37

Just a warning to those who try to use Compiz advanced desktop feature under Ubuntu Hardy 8.04. Certain dialog boxes in OpenDX will cause the Xserver to fail, disabling the advance features (Compiz) in the Gnome desktop fixes the problem. There are certain problems with the Nvidia drivers and Compiz (memory leaks), so I'm not at all sure this is a general bug or related to the Nvidia drivers.

Maybe I cried wolf a bit soon... I recompiled the CVS version (4.4.5) of OpenDX with the fix in http://www.opendx.org/cgi-bin/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1176042404 and now everything seems to work fine. There could be updates to some X-libraries that are now taken into account after I upgraded from Ubuntu 7.10 to 8.04.

I got a new crash today, so from now on Compiz will remain disabled when working with OpenDX. The crash happens when opening the file browser dialog, quite annoying when you try to save the network.
